Why is My 2016 Expedition Shaking in High Gears?

Hey y’all, So my 2016 Expedition (142k miles on it) has started to shake when I hit those higher gears. Feels kinda like a slip when the torque converter engages or something? Gave her a tune-up at 100k. I thought it might be a misfire at first, but nope, doesn’t feel like that. Anyone experienced this? And what am I looking at cost-wise?

Had the same thing with my '15 model, and it ended up being the torque converter. The fix wasn’t cheap – around $1,500 at the dealer. You might want to check for any transmission-related codes too, just in case

Yeah, it sounds like a torque converter issue. Get the transmission fluid flushed if you haven’t done that recently. Could help smooth things out, and it’s way cheaper than a full-on fix.

I’d start by changing the transmission fluid and filter first. If it’s been a while, that could be all it needs. Much cheaper than diving into torque converter issues. Mine had similar symptoms and that sorted it out. Fluid change is around $200-300 depending where you go.

Haven’t done a fluid change in a bit. I’ll give that a shot first, thanks for the tip.

It could be the driveshaft and not the torque converter.

I remember my Ford felt like it was a little slipping and shaking on high gears, had it checked out and it turned out to be a worn-out U-joint. So I’d check the U-joints too.

Or you might want to also take a look at the spark plugs and coils too. Even though it doesn’t feel like a misfire, those can still cause weird issues like those.

Did a full tune-up not too long ago, so I’m hoping it’s not the plugs. But I’ll double-check just in case.
