My ‘17 Expedition’s rear hatch is being moody. It’ll close, hit the latch, then pop right back up like it thinks something’s in the way. Anyone know if there’s a reset trick like auto windows? Manually, it’s fine, just the automatic function messes up.
Try disconnecting the battery for 10 mins, maybe it just need a ‘hard reset.’ If that doesn’t work, maybe check the latch sensor—it might be faulty.
Yeah, I’d say it’s probably the sensor acting up like the other guy said. Had a similar issue with my ‘15 Expedition. Did a sensor clean with compressed air, and boom—fixed it. Or maybe your Expedition just needs more coffee?
My buddy had the same thing happen and i think he just replaced the motor, and it fixed it. But hey, at least you can still manually close it, right?
I’ll give that battery disconnect trick a shot this weekend. If I end up resetting all my radio stations, though, I’m blaming it on you. Haha.
My liftgate also acted once and It’s mostly when i’m packed full. Sorted it though, turned out it was a wiring issue, maybe check for any frayed wires around the hinge.
Definitely the sensor. These things are way too sensitive sometimes. My old SUV thought my hiking poles were a major threat. Try recalibrating the sensor if a reset doesn’t work.
I’d say call the dealer, but we all know how that ends… $$$. I’d bet on the latch mechanism. Lubricate it. WD-40 might be helpful.
Yeah, I’m not giving the dealer more money unless I absolutely have to. I’ll try lubing it up first. Hopefully, it’s that easy. WD-40, to the rescue, right?
Let us know how it goes with the WD-40. If that works, I’m adding it to my hiking kit along with duct tape and zip ties. Total survival essentials, haha.
Yeah, you got this. Good luck.
