Thinking of upgrading to an Expedition Max... any parking advice?

I’m thinking about upgrading to an Expedition Max. We have 3 kids, all under 6, who are all in car seats. Right now, we have a short Expedition with a second-row bench seat, but space is getting tight and the twins fight the whole time lol. I’d love to put the twins in bucket seats and move my 6-year-old to the third row. My only worry is how hard it will be to park the longer vehicle. Anyone else made the switch? Is parking a lot harder?

I don’t know much about the difference between the short and Max, but I drive an F150 Super Crew and rented an Expedition Max for a couple of weeks. I was surprised at how much easier it was to maneuver compared to my truck.

Same! I had an F150 PowerBoost before switching to the Expedition Max. The turning radius on the Max is way better. I can actually turn around on a 3-lane road without having to back up—something I could never do in the F150!

Wait, what’s a Super Crew? I know about extended, single, and crew cabs, but Super Crew’s new to me.

It’s just Ford’s term for their crew cab trucks. Same thing, just a fancy name.

Yeah, basically a crew cab… but super :sunglasses:

I had a similar experience going from an F150 to an Expedition Max. It handles smoother because the Max has independent suspension, which gives it a better turning radius compared to the solid rear suspension of the trucks.

We upgraded from an ’03 Expedition to a ’15 EL, and I was surprised at how sharp it turns. After a few times parking in a Walmart lot, it became second nature. Just trust your sensors and you’ll be fine.

Totally agree. For me, the width is more of an issue than the length. I’m on the bigger side, so sometimes it’s hard to open the door wide enough to get in and out.

Haha, yeah, same here! I can fit the car in the space, but getting my beer belly out is another story.

I have a ’24 Max and haven’t had any major issues parking. Sometimes I need to take a wider turn and back up a bit, but the extra trunk space is a lifesaver. It fits a double stroller and Costco runs without a problem!

We’ve got a ’21 Max, and I actually find it easier to park than my F150. My wife adjusted pretty quickly too, even though she was coming from a much smaller car (Edge). I’d still recommend getting the bench seat in the third row but make sure it has the fold-down middle seat. We’ve got that, and it’s awesome!

Honestly, I’d recommend taking one for a test drive. The newer ones have 360-degree cameras that make parking way easier. I’ve driven both the short and the Max versions back-to-back, and if you’re already comfortable with the regular Expedition, the Max won’t be a huge adjustment. If you’re in SE Michigan, hit me up, and you can try parking mine!
