Hey everyone. I’ve got a 2017 Expedition Platinum, and I’ve noticed a slight gas smell when I remote start it in the mornings, especially near the rear end. It’s not super strong, but definitely there. No check engine light or anything weird with the drive. Should I be worried about this, or what could be causing it?
No Biggie, sounds like it could be just a minor fuel leak, especially if it’s near the back. You might wanna check the fuel lines or the connection to the tank. No check engine light is a good sign, but I’d get it checked out just to be safe.
That could also be an issue with the EVAP system. It might be worth getting it inspected. Sometimes those charcoal canisters can fail and cause gas smells.
First things first, check your fuel cap!. If it’s loose or damaged, it can cause fumes to escape. I had that issue once and it made me panic until I figured it out.
I’ve read that some folks smell gas with remote starts due to the engine not running correctly at startup. Maybe it’s not burning all the fuel? Could be an exhaust issue or something. I’d get a pro to take a look.
Is it possible you’re just smelling fuel from somewhere else, like a nearby vehicle? Sometimes you can catch a whiff from the gas station or even from your lawn equipment.
Honestly, if it’s just a faint smell and the car runs fine, it might not be a huge concern. Just keep an eye on it. If it gets worse, then maybe panic a little
I once ignored a smell, and it turned out to be a huge problem. Just keep monitoring it. If you notice it getting worse, don’t hesitate to get it checked out.
Appreciate the replies, everyone. I’ll check the fuel cap and maybe have the EVAP system looked at. Just don’t want my Expedition to turn into a ‘Gas Monster’
I’ll also keep my nose on it—literally Any other tips for keeping my Expedition in top shape while I’m at it?
Regular oil changes and keeping the air filters clean, I usually take mine in for a check-up every 5,000 miles. Just a good habit, you know?
Thanks again, everyone. I’ll keep up with the maintenance and let you know if I figure out the smell. You guys are the best.
