I got a 2023 Expedition Max Limited, and Ford’s hitting me up to pay extra for their Co-Pilot360—basically their version of self-driving. All I really need is good ol’ cruise control and maybe some lane assist, but I’m not feeling this whole subscription thing after dropping big bucks on the vehicle. Anyone else feeling the same or am I overreacting? Thoughts on whether it’s worth it?
I feel you, but I actually caved and got it for my ‘23 Expedition. To be honest, I do a lot of highway driving, and the hands-free part is kinda sweet once you get used to it. Might not be worth it for everyone, but it’s saved me on long trips.
I mean, I do drive a lot, so I can see the appeal. How much are you shelling out for it per month? Is it, like, actually hands-free, or do you still have to touch the wheel every few minutes?
Yeah, it’s pretty hands-off, but every once in a while it’ll beep if it thinks you’re zoning out and wants a hand on the wheel. I pay about $25 a month, which adds up, but for me it’s worth it, especially for road trips.
Honestly, for me this whole subscription trend just feels like a money grab. I mean, how often are you really going to use self-driving? Plus, what happens if you decide to stop paying—do they just disable the feature that was already built into the car?
I can’t stand the subscriptions either. But if you’re leasing or planning to sell down the line, the BlueCruise subscription might add some value for resale. You know, people like the idea of self-driving even if they don’t use it.
LOL, my ‘19 doesn’t even have BlueCruise, so I can’t relate. But I agree, paying for something like that monthly after buying the car is kinda insane. Might as well throw in a fee for turning on the headlights while they’re at it.
Right? I’m just waiting for them to charge us for using the A/C or something. It feels like we’re heading in that direction.
Honestly, it’s not bad for city traffic—BlueCruise can handle stop-and-go well i believe. But if you don’t deal with bumper-to-bumper often, you might not need it.
That’s actually a good point. I’m in rural Texas, so I don’t hit traffic. Makes sense why I’d never care about it, but if you’re in LA or something, maybe it’s more useful.
Y’all keep talking about paying for extra features, but does anyone else have issues with lane assist in general? My ‘22 keeps thinking I’m trying to switch lanes when I’m not, and it’s getting annoying.
Oh man, same here. My ‘23 does that too sometimes. I’ve learned to live with it, but every once in a while it’s like, ‘Chill, car, I’m just hugging the line.
You guys have fancy problems. I’m over here just hoping my ‘19 doesn’t throw another ‘check engine’ light when I hit 70 mph.
