Hey y’all, so the driver’s side headlight on my '08 Expedition just went out on the way to my buddy’s house. Swapped in a new LED bulb, worked for a bit, but then poof… out again. Checked the fuses, and they seem fine. Anyone have a clue what’s going on? This is driving me nuts…
I think I had a similar issue with my '07, and it turned out that the connector was loose and wasn’t making full contact. Try jiggling the wires a bit and see if that makes a difference.
Maybe your LEDs are overheating. Some cheaper ones don’t have great cooling and just shut off after getting too hot.
Not to sound obvious, but did you check the ground wire? I had this exact issue, and it was just a bad ground. Made a solid connection, and it’s been good ever since.
Huh, I haven’t looked at the ground wire yet. I’ll check that tomorrow. Appreciate the tip.
If it’s not the wiring, you might have a faulty ballast if you’re using an LED conversion kit. Mine fried after a few months.
I’d be checking the relay too. I know you said fuses are good, but relays can act up and cut power intermittently. Swap it with another to see if that helps. Let me know how it goes.
I presume it could be a short somewhere. Maybe try wiggling the wires while the headlight’s on to see if it cuts out. If it does, it’s likely a wiring issue.
