Just bought a 2018 Expedition Platinum, 60k miles, with the towing package. It’s in great condition, but I’ve been hearing about transmission issues on here. Should I worry? Maybe get a warranty or do some preventative maintenance? Any thoughts?
Honestly, I’d grab an aftermarket warranty. Better safe than sorry. These transmissions can act up around 80k miles. But if it runs smooth now, no need to panic yet.
I got a 2019 Expedition, and yeah, transmission issues can be a thing. Get the fluid changed early, that helped mine. Haven’t had a problem yet. Knock on wood.
I’ve been driving with zero issues, no warranty, just good vibes. But honestly, if you sleep better with a warranty, go for it.
And Don’t forget to use the tow/haul mode if you’re pulling stuff. Iittle bro didn’t and, surprise, transmission problems. Lesson learned.
Aftermarket warranties can be a lifesaver or a total waste of cash. Depends on who you go with. Check reviews first.
That’s true @Little_ChRIS I went the warranty route only after checking reviews, very worth it plus Ford stuff ain’t cheap if something goes wrong.
I’ll definitely look into warranties. Who did you guys use for yours? Are they actually covering stuff, or is it a fight every time?
I went with CarShield. It’s been good so far, but you gotta read the fine print.
I went with Endurance. No issues yet, but I haven’t really needed it either, so take that for what it’s worth, haha.
All these warranties sound like insurance scams, tbh. Just keep up on maintenance, and you’ll be fine. Ford’s built tough…right? Haha.
Haha Sure, Ford’s “tough” unless you try towing a trailer uphill in 100-degree weather. Then it’s tough to find a tow truck.
LMAO… been there. Mine overheated in the middle of nowhere while towing. Now I always stop to cool off.
I hear you on that. I swear, Expeditions are like, “Oh, you wanna tow? Lemme just break down real quick.
Ha, my wife calls ours the “Ford Expensive-tion” because we keep putting money into it. Still love it, though.
Ford Expensive-tion" that’s hilarious. Yeah, I want to love mine too, but hearing all these stories has me second-guessing my purchase a little.
Nah, don’t second guess. Just enjoy the ride. Worst case, you’re stranded on a nice scenic highway.
Best case, you’ll be the guy posting here in 3 years like, “No issues… You guys were wrong”
Well, my '19 is still running strong at 85k miles. Guess I’m one of the lucky ones…so far.
Lucky or just well-maintained? I feel like these things reward you for taking care of them.
