Hey all, just picked up a 2024 Expedition Max and loving it so far, but there’s this annoying rattle coming from the headliner every now and then. Anyone else dealt with this? Thinking about taking it to the dealer, but I’m wondering if this is common or something easy to fix myself?
When mine rattled I thought it was the headliner too at first but it was the rear seatbelt tensioners. Might want to check that before going to the dealer
Oh, interesting!.. I’ll check the seatbelt area tonight, didn’t even think of that. Was it a DIY fix for you?
Yeah, it was super easy—just tightened a few bolts. But if you’re still under warranty, might as well have the dealer take care of it.
That could also be a loose trim near the sunroof. Had that happen on my ‘23, sounded like it was coming from the headliner but it was actually the plastic molding.
My ‘21 Limited also had a similar noise but it was just some random wires up there not clipped in properly. I added some foam tape around them, and it’s been quiet ever since. You could also give that a shot.
LOL, my 2019 had so many rattles, I gave up and just cranked the radio louder. Ford loves rattles, I swear.
Haha, I feel that. Might just drown it out with some tunes if it gets worse.
This might sound dumb, but you should also check your roof rack crossbars. I had a rattle up there that sounded just like it was coming from the headliner. Adjusted those and it disappeared
I’ll just say this, if you’re not in the mood to deal with it yourself, take it to the dealer. It’s their problem, not yours, right? Ford’s gotta fix that stuff.
Huh, I didn’t even think about the roof rack. I did just throw some crossbars on last week. Will give those a look before I head to the dealer.
If it’s not that, I’m betting it’s the sunroof like we mentioned earlier. Just don’t wait too long to get it checked if the DIY fixes don’t work. The dealer route can save you some headaches.
Or just keep that radio idea on standby Ford rattles + loud music = problem solved,
