I’ve got a 2020 Expedition I bought used with 35k on it. Now I’ve put 10k more on it, but I’m only getting like 13 MPG, mostly highway miles, and I drive like a grandpa. Tried new plugs, cleaned up the intake stuff—still no change. Any ideas? My wallet’s crying at the pump.
I’ve got a 2019 and get around 15 MPG on the highway, so yours seems low. Have you checked your tire pressure? Under-inflated tires can kill your mileage without you even realizing.
Yeah, tire pressure for sure. But also, have you tried using a fuel injector cleaner? A little bit of gunk in the system can mess with your MPG btw.
I had the same sh**t with my 2018, It was a bad O2 sensor, it was just sitting at 12 MPG. When I swapped that, it bumped back up to 16.
I’ll look into that O2 sensor, seems like that could be the issue because I’ve already tried plugs and sensors. Did you replace it yourself?..
Nah, I took it to a shop. Not trying to mess with sensors myself.
I’m getting around 17 MPG with my 2021, so I’d be crying too. But before swapping out parts, try switching up gas stations. Some places sell garbage fuel, and it’s more common than you’d think.
You’re not wrong, man. I switched to a different gas brand, and my MPG actually went up. No joke. Could be worth a shot tbh.
That’s actually a good call. I’ve been using the same gas station for a while, maybe time to mix it up and see. Thanks for the tip @ExpeditionExplorer
I’ve got a 2020 too and was seeing bad mileage until I realized my driving habits weren’t as ‘grandpa’ as I thought, LOL. Do you use cruise control on the highway? Makes a difference for me—keeps the engine from revving too much when I’m not paying attention.
@4x4Expedition Preach!.. I get way better mileage with cruise control. Without it, I’m all over the place and my MPG tanks.
You also gotta check your air filter. Sometimes it gets clogged up, and it’s an easy fix. I saw a 1-2 MPG increase just swapping mine
I actually just swapped my air filter last month, so that’s all good.
