Expedition 2018 shifting weird after overhaul… anyone had this happen?

I got my 2018 Expedition Limited back from a warranty overhaul a week ago. It’s still shifting rough, but now it’s not just in the 4th to 6th gear range. I’m noticing it more in higher gears like 8th, 9th, and sometimes 7th.

I called the dealership, and they said they’ll check the codes again. I thought an overhaul would solve everything? Has anyone else had problems after an overhaul this soon?

Also, the rattle in my car is a lot louder now… but does that even have anything to do with the transmission?

I had the same issue with my 2018 Expedition. The overhaul didn’t fix it, and I ended up needing a full transmission replacement. The first dealership didn’t believe me about the shifting issues, so I took it to another one. Turns out they hadn’t used updated parts, which caused more problems.

What if they say there’s nothing in the codes? Should I insist they dig deeper?

Definitely go for a test drive with the tech. Sometimes they don’t feel the problem until you show them. If they still dismiss it, I’d try another dealership like I did—it made a huge difference.

I had a full overhaul on my 2020 model last month, and it drives like new now. They might need to either redo it or replace the whole thing in your case.

How well an overhaul works depends a lot on the skill of the tech. They might’ve missed something or replaced a part that was already faulty.

I have a 2018 Navigator. My rebuild failed right after the dealership worked on it. They ended up replacing the whole transmission. This happened at 63k miles—now at 85k, I’m planning to stay on top of fluid changes.

Has anyone tried using a tuner for this? Any luck fixing these issues?

If it’s the 10R80 transmission, Ford has a TSB out for it. These 10-speeds are known for problems with the drum inside.
