Does anyone know if the price of a Ford ESP goes up from the time you buy the vehicle to when you actually purchase the ESP if you don’t do it right away? We just got a '24 Limited, and I’d like to get an ESP, but I’d rather wait until the factory bumper-to-bumper warranty is almost up. I know there could be general price increases, but I’m wondering if the base price of the ESP I was quoted stays the same.
You can buy the Ford ESP when you buy the car or any time before the car hits 36,000 miles or 36 months, and the price should stay the same. Dealers often don’t tell you this because they want you to buy it immediately. Why? 1) You pay more upfront. 2) You finance it at high interest. 3) It adds to your loan, making you upside down on the value if you trade in the future. Dealers profit from this.
Check out Granger Ford in Iowa for online purchases. I bought one for my '21 Expedition Limited (10 Yr/175K miles Premium Care) for $5,500. My local place wanted over $10,000.
Your '24 Limited would be around $7,100 for 10 yr/175K Premium Care.
@Sam
I was looking at Granger too. If the price doesn’t change, I’ll wait. I didn’t finance, so no worries there. If I can let my money work for me for the next 35 months, that’s ideal. Do you know if an inspection is required if you don’t buy it new? I don’t want to go through a third-party dealer for one if buying online. If it’s only after 36,000 miles/36 months, I won’t stress because I’d buy it before then.
I was told it’s about 10% of the MSRP if you buy it while the car is still new, and more if you wait to add it later. I ended up paying way less, around $2,500.
You can check prices on Zeigler’s site. Just enter your mileage, choose your coverage, and see the quotes. If you buy later, an inspection is needed before they accept you for the ESP. Make sure the underside is clean—no grime or dust.
Our 2021 Expedition with 63,000 miles failed an ESP inspection at a local Ford dealer. They wanted almost $3,500 in repairs to pass. I thought the failed items were a bit sketchy, but you can’t really argue with them.
I don’t think the price goes up until after an inspection is required. I bought mine from Zeigler right before I needed an inspection, and the prices were still good.
FYI, you can buy an ESP without an inspection slightly past the factory warranty period, up to 48 months or 48,000 miles. After that, you need an inspection, and prices might start to rise.
One plus of buying it when you purchase the car is that you can include it in the vehicle financing.
I bought my ESP from Flood Ford back in 2021. There was a small price increase if you didn’t buy within a certain time or mileage after purchase, maybe $200 or so. I think it was around 12 months or 12,000 miles, but I can’t remember exactly.
