Go for it! It was a fun project, and I learned something new along the way. Would totally do it again.
Might give it a shot! The chrome trim looks tricky though.
Both the chrome and C pillar have their challenges. The toughest parts of the chrome trim were under the mirrors and around the rear quarter curve. A little heat helps, but don’t overdo it. I’d suggest starting with the back doors and hatch, those were more straightforward.
For the C pillar, I used the factory edge at the front seal, which was forgiving. The hardest part was tucking the top corner behind the glass. I ended up using a patch piece there.
Just take your time, especially when cutting. A sharp blade is key, and you won’t need much pressure. Check out this guy’s tutorial on common mistakes. It’s really helpful.
Been seeing people use hydrodip for this too. Too many options to choose from!
That looks great! We looked at the limited model today with the stealth package, but I’m not sure about the huge screen. What do you think of it?
Mixed feelings on the big screen. It looks awesome and keeps the dashboard looking clean. Apple CarPlay works great on it, and the full-screen GPS is super easy to read. It’s also pretty responsive. I rented an Expedition with a smaller screen, and it felt a bit laggy in comparison.
My only issue is the climate controls are on the screen instead of physical buttons. There’s a button for max defrost, but for other stuff, you need to use the screen. You can use voice commands through the steering wheel, but I’m still getting used to that.
Good to know, thanks for sharing!
Same rims here! Are those black lug nut covers or full black lugs?
They’re covers. I bought these right after getting the truck. Also swapped the stock two-piece lug nuts with solid ones the first time I rotated the tires. Had bad experiences with swelling lug nuts before, and wanted to avoid that here.
Went with covers since I’ve seen black lug nuts get scratched up.
I had to return my covers because they were too long. I’ll give these a try. Wasn’t aware of the two-piece lug issue, definitely keeping that in mind now.
I’ll take some more pictures later today, including a close-up of the covers. The two-piece lugs were a nightmare on my friend’s Jeep. We had to hammer an impact socket on them to get them off, and it destroyed them. About a third of the lugs were swollen.
These are the solid lugs I used. Been on for a year now with no issues.
Thanks for that! Did the covers fit over the stock rims too?
Yeah, they fit the stock rims. I had the covers on the factory lug nuts for about half the time before I switched to the solid ones. The covers should fit other rims too.
Perfect, just placed my order. Thanks again!
Been thinking about blacking out my pillars, and this has convinced me. Looks so good.
Happy with how it turned out. The part on the door was pretty easy. There’s a seal on both sides to tuck the wrap under, and you can unscrew the bottom trim to tuck it there too. Just takes a bit of patience.
More pics please! This is
Here are some more shots! Thanks!
Awesome work. Looks fantastic.
