Are Expeditions any good or just trouble?

I’ve got a 2019 Expedition with 79,500 miles. I love it, but it hasn’t been cheap:

  • 45k: Driver-side CV axle replacement ($300)
  • 71k: Transmission replacement ($8,000)
  • 72k: Rear wheel hub assembly replacement ($1,200)
  • 72k: Coolant line repair ($800)
  • 74k: Transmission pan gasket replacement (warranty)
  • 79.5k: Cam phasers being repaired now (cost TBD)

I still love driving it, but I regret not getting an extended warranty. If you’re buying one, get the best coverage you can afford.

I have a 2019 too, and it’s got a vibration in the gas pedal and a droning sound from the front driver-side wheel. Did your CV or hub issues cause anything like that?

No vibrations for me, but the droning sound was definitely the rear hub assembly, not the front.

Thanks for the info!

I got a 2017 EL Limited with 103k miles. It’s been good, but I’ve had to fix a few things:

  • Shocks
  • Turbo coolant fitting
  • Washer pump (froze and broke)
  • Water pump
  • O2 sensor

All pretty easy DIY fixes, and it saved me a lot on repair costs.

Had a 2016 Expedition, and the throttle body failed multiple times. Got a 2020 now, and the transmission went out at 80k miles. They look good, but reliability sucks.

Classic 10-speed failure.

I’ve had multiple Fords, including a 2019 Expedition Max. It’s had phase cam issues, transmission problems, and even AC failure. It’s not great, but I’d still buy it again because it fits my needs and budget.

Wow, you’ve been through a lot of Fords! I might look into something else but thanks for sharing.
