Hey folks,
Any thoughts on how the 3.5L EcoBoost or even the V8 would do in the Expedition? I’m kinda surprised Ford didn’t put them in. Would they hold up? Seems like a missed opportunity.
The 3.5L EcoBoost is a beast already. Plenty of power. A V8 might be overkill unless you want to tow a house behind you . But yeah, a V8 would’ve been cool.
Man, I’m in Texas, and I’d kill for a V8 option. EcoBoost is nice and all, but there’s just something about the rumble of a V8, y’know?
I feel like the 3.5L has more than enough for daily driving, especially with kids and a dog onboard. Unless you’re towing something massive, the V8 just adds extra weight and fuel consumption, IMO.
@FordFanatic76 Yeah, I see your point. I’m not really towing much. Just always had a soft spot for that V8 growl.
Forget the V8, Ford just wants to save on emissions. The EcoBoost is already optimized for fuel efficiency, man. You’d miss the V8 for the sound but not the gas station trips!
Lol, you’re probably right. Gas prices are no joke these days…
Honestly, I kinda prefer the EcoBoost too. I had a V8 in my old truck, and it was fun… until it wasn’t, cause my wallet cried every time I filled up.
I had the 5.0 in my F-150 before I got my Expedition. It’s great for towing, but the 3.5 is smoother for everyday driving. Plus, the wife prefers it – quieter and quicker off the line.
@RoadTripReady Eh, I guess that’s fair. But you don’t buy a full-size SUV for “quiet.” It’s meant to roar a bit
Haha, true, but when you’ve got three kids screaming in the back, you learn to appreciate a quieter engine!
I get it, but I’ve been hauling a boat with the 3.5L for years, no problems at all. Feels like Ford nailed the balance between power and efficiency with this one.
Same here, pulled my camper to the Grand Canyon last summer with the EcoBoost. No issues whatsoever, and I wasn’t burning through fuel like I would’ve with a V8.
Wow, that’s impressive. I think I’m starting to lean more toward sticking with the EcoBoost after all these stories. Maybe I just wanted a V8 for nostalgia’s sake .
