I’ve always been a Tahoe person. I traded my '21 Z71 for a '21 Yukon Denali, but I ended up selling it because the Denali felt too fancy. Now I’ve been driving a Jeep Wrangler, but it’s just not working for me and I need my big SUV back. I saw an Expedition Limited recently, and I think it looks as good as the Z71. Now, I’m stuck between getting the '24 Expedition Limited (303 or 304a) or a 2025 Z71. Help me out… what are the pros and cons of each?
We have a 2022 Expedition Max and chose it over the Tahoe for a few reasons, mainly the interior. The front space in the Expedition felt more functional. The electric compartment in the Tahoe felt like a bad idea and would probably break after a lot of use, especially with a family. Also, the small storage compartments in the Expedition made a huge difference. Plus, the easy access to the 3rd row in the Expedition was a win for us. You can leave a car seat or booster seat in place and still access the 3rd row, which you can’t do in the Tahoe. The Tahoe’s gear selector was terrible too—my god, I hated it. If you’re used to it, maybe it’s fine, but I couldn’t stand it. As for performance, both have the same transmission, but the Expedition has a turbo 6 engine and around 30 more HP than the Tahoe, and I noticed the difference. Not enough to change our choice, but it’s worth mentioning.

I’m all about second-row captain’s chairs in both. Thanks for your thoughts, it’s good to hear from someone who’s considered both.

We thought we’d go with the captain’s chairs too, but the bench in the Expedition really worked for us. If we’d gone with the Tahoe, we’d have chosen the captain’s chairs. Also, the Tahoe’s infotainment system felt clunky compared to Ford’s.
@Jai
I gotta say, the infotainment in my husband’s '24 F150 really started to convince me. The '25 Tahoe is supposed to get an update though.
I’ve always been a GM guy and currently drive a 2020 Sierra 2500 Duramax daily. We picked up an Expedition Max Platinum a couple of months ago (first Ford) and I’ve been really impressed. It has tons of power and decent fuel economy. But the seats… they are so much more comfortable than any GM vehicle I’ve had. The front seats in the Expedition Platinum are super plush, and the massage function makes them even better. But I think you need to get the Platinum to get the better seats. I don’t think the Limited has the same level of comfort.
@Ollie
Any seat would be better than the Wrangler’s seats.
I’m also considering the Expedition Limited or a used Suburban from 2021 or 2022.

The 2022 model is when the Expedition got an interior refresh, and it really makes a difference.
I’ve driven vehicles from all the big brands. My first was a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit (seats were terrible, even though they’re supposed to be ‘luxury’). Then I had a 2020 RAM 3500 Cummins, which had the best seats ever—no leather, just really comfortable. Eventually, I ended up with a 2023 F150 PowerBoost after dealing with some issues with the RAM. The EcoBoost engine really impressed me. But after some time, we needed to trade in the F150 for an SUV because of a growing family, and getting rid of the Camry Hybrid didn’t make sense. Every Suburban and Tahoe felt sluggish to me, and the seats just didn’t feel right. Finally, we got a 2024 Ford Expedition King Ranch. It’s incredibly comfortable and fast. We spent about a month test driving different SUVs. I almost liked the Duramax Suburban, but the interior just didn’t work for me. My wife loves the seats in the Expedition and says they’re the most comfortable she’s ever sat in.
