2025 Expedition Towing Confusion

I noticed the 2025 Expedition lists a 7k lbs towing capacity, or 9k lbs with a tow bar. My 2021 can handle 11k lbs, thanks to the bigger radiator. Why the drop? I need max towing for my boat.

Weird, right? My ‘22 Expedition does 10k+ no problem. Wonder if they’re tweaking something under the hood. Maybe emissions-related? Either way, 9k won’t cut it if you’re towing a big boat.

Seems like they’ve downgraded for some reason. Maybe they want us buying those aftermarket upgrades? More $$ for Ford.

I’ve got a 2023 with the heavy-duty trailer package—does 10,900 easy. Can’t imagine going down to 7k or 9k. My boat’s around 9k loaded, so the bar wouldn’t help. Maybe they’re getting stingy on those packages?

Bet they’re trying to make the Expeditions more efficient with fuel. But 7k? That’s like a light camper. I wouldn’t trust it with a hefty boat. My guess? Future hybrid model.

Guess I’ll have to stick with my 2021 if they’re sacrificing power for efficiency. Not a hybrid guy yet, not with towing this much.

It could be that they’re cutting back to avoid overheating? Big radiator does wonders for my 2020 anyway. I wonder if the smaller radiator’s causing that drop.

I feel you. I tow my ATV trailer with a 2019, and it can handle 9k easily, but 7k seems weak for the new models. You could always go aftermarket radiator if you love the 2025 otherwise.

Aftermarket might be the way to go, but if you’ve gotta pay extra just to hit what the old ones could do, what’s the point? Feels like we’re losing ground here, and I bet hiking trips won’t feel the same either. :joy:

Exactly. I want the new tech but not at the cost of towing capacity. It’s like buying a new hiking pack but losing all the useful pockets. Makes no sense. I’m sticking with my current ride for now.
