Thinking about the 2022 Expedition. Looks sharp, but wondering if it’s worth the price and features compared to older models or other SUVs out there. What do you all think?
Best it’s ever looked. I’ve always thought it looked great.
Yeah.
The Expedition hasn’t always looked great. Before 2017, it went almost 10 years without a proper update.
I ordered a 2021 model but I’m canceling it now for the 2022. I had a Limited Max 302A Special Edition with captain’s chairs—super popular package right now. Honestly, I’m not sold on the massive screen, though. It’s the same as my Mach-E, and too many features are buried in menus. The smaller screen has physical buttons, which I like, but probably not for the things I’d want.
The big draw for me is the higher output engine and BlueCruise. I had a 2019 Platinum non-Max, and it was quick, but the 2021 Limited Max I drove felt sluggish—might just be me, though, since I’m used to the Mach-E.
I’ll miss my 2004 Expedition, though. That one’s been with me forever.
Exactly why I don’t like the big screen. It looks nice, but digging through menus for basic stuff is a pain. Sync 4 in the F-150 is great—it’s like Sync 3 but better. Sync 4A (in the Mach-E, Edge, and now the Expedition) feels clunky by comparison.
Hopefully, they’ll improve it over time with updates. One nice thing about modern systems is that they can get over-the-air updates, so it’s not set in stone. I played with it briefly at a Lightning event, and it seemed decent for basic functions.
Yeah, I don’t think it’s a dealbreaker. I just prefer the standard Sync 4. At the end of the day, infotainment systems should be simple. Get in, plug your phone in, and go. If it does that without being annoying, I’m happy.
Totally agree. As long as it’s functional, I’m good. It’s nice that the climate controls stay on the screen, so you don’t have to dig for them. Hopefully, they keep making tweaks to improve it.
Sync 4 works fine for me, but I wish there was a way to turn off wireless charging easily. The phone gets pretty hot while charging and streaming music in that small compartment.
I’m on A-Plan too. Any idea what the typical discount is for the Expedition? My dealer didn’t have any in stock and was pushing me towards other vehicles instead.
Check out https://www.axz.ford.com/. For example, a 2021 Platinum Max has an MSRP of $76,150 but costs $70,092 on A-Plan.
Thanks for the link! That helps a lot.
Some dealers won’t honor X-Plan or A-Plan right now due to low inventory, but I was able to get a deal below MSRP. Might not be too far from A-Plan pricing.
Interesting. Are you near a Ford factory? My local dealers are honoring A-Plan, but we’re pretty close to the factory, so it might make a difference.
Not near any factory, and yeah, the lots around here are pretty empty. Some dealers are even marking up their cars. I avoided those and found a reasonable deal below MSRP.
It looks good. Really hoping they bring the PowerBoost hybrid to it with the next update.
I’m surprised they didn’t announce a hybrid option already. Maybe they’re holding back because of supply chain issues.
Yeah, it seems like the next logical step. Toyota is pushing hybrids hard with their new Tundra, so a Sequoia hybrid is probably on the way. Ford should jump on it before they lose ground.
This update is more of a refresh than a full redesign. We probably won’t see a new powertrain until the next platform change.
