2020 Expedition Max - Anyone know how to replace the plastic cover over the gauges?

I’m trying to replace the plastic cover over the gauges on my 2020 Expedition Max, but it’s proving to be a pain. It’s cracked and super distracting while driving. Dealer told me it would just pop off, but that’s not the case. Has anyone done this before or have any tips?

Some of those covers are sonically welded, so you might end up needing a whole new cluster. Hard to see in the photo—are the cracks really that bad? If they’re not too deep, a good plastic polish might help clear it up.

Edit: I looked closer and can see the crack in the last picture. That’s pretty rough.

@Jace
It’s really bad, and super distracting. I’m frustrated because the dealer made it sound simple, and I could pry it off bit by bit, but I’d rather not destroy it. I’ve been looking for info online, but no luck so far. Hoping someone here has experience with this!

@Harper
You might want to check with companies that do custom overlays or gauge modifications—they might know more about the assembly and removal process.

Also, it’s worth checking if you could plug a different cluster into your car, though Ford often requires programming for compatibility.

@Jace
A full new cluster costs around $600, plus programming fees, so I’d rather just replace the cover. I managed to order just the plastic cover for $40. It’s separate from the black trim with chrome and is attached to the clear plastic. Just trying to get those apart now.

@Harper
Good call on getting the separate part! Just a tip—be sure to clean out any dust or particles before reassembling; you don’t want to open it up again if you can avoid it.

Great idea! I’ll do a deep clean once the part arrives. For now, I’m just driving with the crack, but I’ll tackle it when the cover gets here. It’s weird there’s no info online about this. Maybe it’s a rare issue? No clue what the previous owner did to cause this.

@Harper
Sometimes things like aerosol air fresheners, sunscreens, or bug sprays can cause damage to clear plastics. Seen it happen on LCD screens and gauge covers in different cars.

@Harper
If anyone else needs the part, here’s the number: HC3Z10890G. Dealership couldn’t find it until I provided this number. Online price was $53 with shipping, but local dealer had it for $39. They were trying to sell me something that included extra parts and would’ve cost a lot more.

Side note, but what rims are those? They look awesome! Just got a black 2021 XLT and looking for rim options.

Not sure, honestly! Bought it with everything already installed—nice bonus for me!
