What’s the Best Year for the Expedition Max with Fewer Transmission Issues?

Hey folks, So I’m seriously thinking about getting an Expedition Max, but I’ve heard some sketchy things about transmission problems in earlier models. I’ve owned a few Ford trucks before, but never an Expedition. Can anyone tell me which year’s model had the most reliable transmission updates? I don’t want to end up with a lemon.

I had a 2018 Max and didn’t have any major issues with the transmission. I think the 2020 model might also be the sweet spot if you’re looking for a balance of reliability and features.

I’d say the 2021 and newer models are worth checking out. They seem to have worked out a lot of the kinks that were in the earlier models. I drove a 2022 last month and felt pretty confident about the transmission.

I had a 2017 model and had some issues with the transmission. But my buddy’s 2019 model had zero issues. So maybe consider looking at the 2019-2021 range. Seems like they really ironed out the problems in that timeframe.

I’ve been driving a 2016 Max and had a few hiccups with the transmission early on. Maybe skip the 2016-2018 models and go for something newer.

I rented a 2021 Max last summer and it was smooth as butter. No transmission issues at all.

I had a 2015 Max, and while it was great overall, the transmission was a bit of a hassle. You might not want to consider that.
