Hey everyone, we’re thinking about jumping back into the Expedition Max after a couple of years with the Suburban. My wife’s keen on the new Expedition, so we’re eyeing models from 2018 and up. I’ve heard some mixed reviews about the 2018 and 2019 models—should I really avoid those? And if I’m not, what should I keep an eye out for? We loved our old 2015, just wished it had a different paint job.
I think you’re right to be cautious about the 2018 and 2019. I’ve read they had some transmission issues and the infotainment system was a bit glitchy. Definitely check the service history on those.
Honestly, I wouldn’t totally write off the 2018-2019 models. My buddy has a 2019 Max, and it’s really superb. Just make sure to look for any recalls and see if they’ve been addressed. The newer tech features are pretty cool too.
I had a 2018 for a bit, and while I loved the space, I had a few problems with the electrical system so you are absolutely right.
My 2019 also had a quirky battery issue, but I got it fixed. Just make sure you test drive it thoroughly.
Thanks for the insights everyone. I appreciate the heads-up on the electrical issues. Any specific things I should look for during the test drive?
You should definitely check the climate control. I’ve heard some folks complain about it not cooling down fast enough. Also, listen for any weird noises while turning. Can be a sign of suspension issues.
I’d also check the rear seats. I had a 2018, and the seats felt a bit flimsy compared to my 2015.
Good call, Thanks for all the tips. I’m also curious about the fuel efficiency. Is it really that bad compared to the Yukon?
Honestly, it’s pretty similar. Just keep in mind that if you’re loaded up, you might notice a dip.
