Recently my much-beloved 2017 Suburban was totaled by a red light runner. They were assigned 100% fault, but my car is toast. Bought new, never a single issue, fantastic vehicle.
I don’t really want someone else’s used car, so I’m looking for new alternatives. The 2024 Expedition Max Platinum seems like a bit of a value play right now. Rebates-wise, I’d get $5000 bonus cash, $2000 GM Conquest, and 2.9% for 72 months—all stackable. Plus a few thousand dollars in dealer discount, so around $75-79k all said and done.
Seems pretty decent for something with BlueCruise and massaging seats. I love the GM V8s, but they’re definitely not as willing to deal on 2024s, and 2025s haven’t even hit the ground yet. That same money GM-wise gets a Yukon XL SLT, whereas the Expedition has Denali/High Country levels of features.
I had an older Suburban, but my 2019 Expedition Max beat the newer Chevys when I was looking. I was blown away by the comfort and amenities for the price, and at this point, I won’t go back to Chevy. And I loved my Suburban.
I’m at the dealer now looking to replace my 2021 with a 2024 before the redesign, which I don’t really care for.
Having experienced both a Suburban and an Expedition, we felt the Expedition was roomier and felt very open. Ford really did a nice job. My only complaint is the interior could’ve been nicer for the price, but it’s still the most comfortable out of everything we drove.
Drive them back to back and see which you like more. The current Expedition will feel slightly older in comparison to a GM, but solid nonetheless. All new vehicles can have issues, so it’s luck of the draw.
The biggest issue with the Expedition is the transmission, though most bugs have been worked out. From forums and general understanding, the Platinum Expeditions are solid otherwise.
Keep in mind, the 2024 Expedition will have BlueCruise, but it’s the first iteration, so expect constant warnings, no lane changes, limited curve control, and no updates. The 2025 model will have the latest version, more comparable to Super Cruise. If you’re open to it, try a Wagoneer as well, despite its polarizing exterior.
Suburbans are death traps. The 2nd and 3rd-row middle seats don’t have headrests. Every seat in the Expedition does. For kids, the Expedition has 5 car seat anchors and 6 tether anchors.
Not trying to hijack the OP, but I’ve never purchased new and have no previous relationships with dealers. Do I just call a salesman and ask about rebates, conquest offers, and promos? Are there any keywords I should use to avoid sounding like a newbie?
Also, is it better to stick with local dealers? I only have two within an hour of me. I’ve been looking at used models, but after seeing this post, maybe it’s worth going for new. Coming from an Armada, I’ve been impressed with the few Expeditions I’ve tested.
