Finally pulled the trigger on a 2019 Expedition Max Platinum, and I couldn’t be happier. It’s been a dream to drive so far! Let me know if you have any questions or want to share your own Expedition stories.

How’s the SUV running? Any issues yet? We’re looking into 2018-2020 models but worried about the cam phaser issues.
Is it the standard EcoBoost or the HO motor that the Navigators and Raptors have?

This has slightly less power than the Raptor/Navigator engine:
- Expedition: 400 HP and 480 lb.-ft. torque.
- Raptor: 450 HP and 510 lb.-ft. torque.

The Platinum does have more HP than the other trims, but I’m not sure of the exact specs.
@Van
The engines are the same, but the software bumps the Platinum to 400 HP compared to 375 HP on other trims.

Time for a tune! The EcoBoost engines are a whole new level of fun.

It depends on whether it’s split-port injection or not. Two versions of the 3.5 exist: single timing chain and dual timing chains. From what I’ve read, Expeditions since 2018 have the Gen 2 3.5, which is also used in the Raptor and GT.
@Ellis
Yep, your 2019 has the Gen 2 3.5. The aluminum BIW and Gen 2 engine started with 2018, and there weren’t drivetrain changes for 2019. The Gen 2 is a joy—faster than you’d expect for something this massive.
Not a tuner myself, but I’m curious what it’d take to push 647 HP from the 400 HP engine. Maybe just software and a good dyno?
@Tru
Wiki says it has dual timing chains and twin fuel injection, so that helps with reliability. For 600+ HP, you’d need a bigger intercooler and a few upgraded parts.
Please bring back the Excursion!

F250 front end on a 3/4 ton SUV? That’s the dream.
Beautiful!

Nice ride!
We got a Silver Spruce Max ‘19 two months ago and LOVE it. First new car in 10 years. We went with a loaded XLT but might spring for black wheels soon. Your Platinum looks fantastic! That blue was our second choice after the green.
