Never buying a Ford again after this mess

I’ve got a 2019 Platinum Max that I bought new, and it’s been nothing but trouble. Cam phasers went out and got fixed under warranty, but now they’re acting up again, and they want thousands to fix it. On top of that, the transmission keeps disengaging or makes this loud clunk on the highway—dealer quoted over $5,000 to repair.

And these are just the big issues. There have been countless smaller problems since I got it. This whole experience has completely turned me off from Ford. Anyone else dealing with this?

We bought a 2019 Max new too and thankfully got the extended warranty. We’ve had the cam phasers replaced and just had the rear AC cooler fixed, all under warranty. Seems like everything nowadays is loaded with electronics and plastic parts—issues are bound to happen. Sometimes it’s just luck of the draw with these things.

@Wylie
Yeah, all the manufacturers are putting in so many electronic parts and plastic now. Everything’s bound to break eventually.

@Wylie
That’s why we stick with Toyota and Lexus. Our Toyotas have over 200k miles and no issues at all.

Sorry to hear that, man. I’ve got a 2017 Expedition Platinum with 133k miles and no major issues. Just the usual maintenance stuff.

The 2018-2019 Expeditions are known for problems. The 2014 model was probably the best year for them.

Had a 2014 Expedition, and it was the best vehicle I ever owned! Traded it in for that new car smell—huge mistake.

Yeah, the 2018-2019 F150s were pretty bad too.

Don’t forget about 2013! Basically the same as the 2014 and just as reliable.

I feel your pain. We got burned by Acura with our old MDX—$7k on a transmission rebuild. No brand loyalty here anymore. Fingers crossed our 2023 Expedition holds up.

That’s insane! Did you think about just getting a new one instead?

@Ainsley
Yeah, but a new one was about $13k versus $7k for the rebuild. The 6-speed in the ‘14 MDX AWD is massive and costly.

@Ainsley
I wish my transmission was made of adamantium at these prices!

Still driving my 2000 Expedition Eddie Bauer with 195,000 miles. Built to last!

Got a ‘99 Eddie Bauer with 230,000 miles. Everything still works.

Same here! Got an '03 XLT with 200k miles and it drives like new. What happened with these newer ones?

When I saw plastic oil pans and heater hoses, I knew ‘Ford Tough’ was just marketing. You need a PremiumCARE warranty for these new trucks.

Just had to replace our plastic heater hoses for $1,200—wasn’t covered under warranty because they said it’s a ‘wear part’.

Reading all this makes me grateful I got the extended warranty on my ‘23 Platinum Max.

Bought a used 2020 Max Limited, not knowing about these issues. Left my 2013 Pathfinder due to transmission problems, just to land in a bigger mess.
