I feel like I love it for practical reasons—tons of space, good gas mileage (compared to other big SUVs), and overall a solid package. But I rarely see people listing an Expedition as their dream car, so now I’m wondering… is that weird?
“Good gas mileage”?? Compared to what—a Hummer?

Nah, compared to the Saturn V rocket.

Once you hit orbit, your MPG increases astronomically.
@Finn
Nice one.

Fun fact: The Saturn V rocket had about 1,000,000 gallons of fuel and a round trip to the Moon is roughly 500,000 miles. That puts its MPG at 0.5, which is shockingly decent!
@Bowie
Yeah, considering the engines don’t even run for most of the trip.

Yep! But if you only count the first stage, it gets about 7 inches per gallon.

Tbh, I’d take 17/24 MPG in a full-size SUV. That’s not bad!

I looked it up—turns out it’s actually 17/21 MPG. Ouch.
Then I saw the 2019 Toyota Land Cruiser—13/18 MPG . And it starts at $84K! Insane.
@Mackenzie
Doug DeMuro just reviewed the Land Cruiser, and the only negative thing he could say was the terrible MPG.
@Mackenzie
It’s just physics, really. Solid axles, high clearance, shaped like a brick. Nothing you can do to fix it.

With Land Cruisers, the key is looking at total cost of ownership. Price is high, fuel bill is high, but everything else is dirt cheap.

17 MPG city is good! My gluten-free, flower-child Subaru doesn’t even do that.

Crosstrek driver here… I know the struggle.
@Mackenzie
My Suburban and Subaru get the same MPG. Either Chevy is stepping up or Subaru is slacking.

Subaru dropped the ball… and it landed in an oil puddle from a blown head gasket.
Expeditions are nice, but calling them fuel efficient is bold.
To each their own.
I totally get it, OP.
When family lives far away, nothing beats a full-sized SUV for soaking up highway miles in comfort. Plus, it can haul everything you need.
I’d take a Navigator, Escalade, or GLS over a sports car for a long-haul trip any day.
