I’ve got a 2023 Expedition Timberline with automatic running boards, and they’re retracting too fast after I shut the door. By the time I get from the back door to the driver’s seat, they’re already folding up. I’ve got the delay option turned on, but it’s still super fast. Any way to extend the timeout a bit longer? Just feel like it’s unnecessary stress on the mechanism.
I asked the dealership about this and they said there’s no other setting. I always just open the front door a little before I walk around to keep them down.
I’m also not sure if there’s a fix for that, but maybe you can look into aftermarket controllers? You can try tweaking the delay using a tuner
Aftermarket controllers??.. I didn’t even know that was a thing. might look into that. Thanks
My guy has the same model, I just asked and he said he added a little spacer on the sensor so it delays the fold-in. He said it works well but does mess with the warranty a bit.
Personally, I’d just turn off the auto deploy. If you’re doing short stops or walking around, it’s easier to avoid the wear.
I’ve seen folks adjust the position of the door sensors so it takes longer to trigger the retract. Could require some fiddling though.
Don’t mess with the sensors. You’ll just cause more issues with the electronics and end up paying the dealer to fix it.
