I got a 2022 Ford Expedition XLT Max for my business 3 months ago (Limousine Services). Everything was fine until late last month when I noticed the steering wheel shakes when I go past 82 mph. I took it to two separate mechanics and was told that the tire tread on the driver’s side was bad at just 62,000 miles. I replaced all four tires last week and drove it yesterday, went past 82 mph, and still felt the shaking. Any ideas on what might be going wrong?
If it’s not tire balance, it might be warped brake rotors.

Brake rotors almost never actually warp.

I’ve personally turned several that have warped slightly, including some for an Expedition. It’s not common to feel a shake without applying the brakes, but it definitely isn’t rare. I’ve had it happen on two different personally owned vehicles, including an Expedition.

That’s not true. In areas with a lot of rain and mountain roads, your rotors heat up and cool down fast. There are more brake shops in my area than Dollar Generals!
Could be a bent wheel rim or a bad wheel bearing. A good tire shop should be able to check that out.
Brake issues only happen when you apply the brakes, not when cruising.

It happens every time I speed past 82 mph on the highway.
Did you put four NEW tires on the vehicle?
Did you make sure they were the right ones for your vehicle?
How were they balanced?

Yes, I got 4 new tires, and they did wheel balancing and alignment.
@Torin
What kind of tires did you get?
Did they road force balance?
Does the vibration start at 82 mph and continue the whole time?
What happens if you put the car in neutral at that speed?
I just found out from my 2024 with only 1500 miles on it… Could be a bad transfer case.
Do you hear any noises like clicking or ratcheting along with the shaking? Depending on the tread wear, it could also be a loose suspension part or wheel bearing/hub assembly failure.
How was the tread bad?
