Check engine light popped up… anyone dealt with this?

We’ve got a 2021 Expedition with 72,000 miles and haven’t had a single issue—until today. This warning just came up. Has anyone else run into this?

Probably one of your O2 sensors.

Head over to AutoZone or O’Reilly’s and get the code scanned—it’ll tell you exactly which one is acting up.

Didn’t even think of that! Appreciate it!

Yep, definitely this.

Mine throws a code sometimes for either an O2 sensor or the catalytic converter—comes and goes on its own. Haven’t done anything about it yet.

Good to know, thanks!

Hard to say without a code. There’s nothing on that screenshot that tells us anything.

Check your gas cap, then head to AutoZone, Advance Auto, or any local parts store for a free scan. If it’s P0420, that’s a pretty common and usually an easy fix.

Got the same issue on my 2018. Dealer told me both catalytic converters were bad and quoted me $4K. No thanks—I’m just gonna keep driving it.

Anyone wanna buy a 2018 Max Limited? :joy:

Yes. :slightly_smiling_face:

Happens to me all the time. First time, I had to replace a catalytic converter. Another time, the light just went on and off for weeks and eventually stayed off. :person_shrugging:

Had this happen on my F-150. Turned out the engine was burning oil, which trashed the catalytic converter.

Did you check if your gas cap is tight?

No gas cap on these, bud.

Yeah, no gas cap, but I get why you’d ask! Had the same issue with my Audi—check engine light would come on if I didn’t tighten the cap right. Wish it was that easy this time! :joy::joy::joy:

Update: Took it in, and both catalytic converters are bad. Thankfully, it’s covered under warranty!

Did you get it fixed? Just got the same code :disappointed:

Yep! Ford covered it under warranty—turns out they cover catalytic converters up to 80,000 miles.

We did pay for a fuel system cleaning ($230) and had to replace a few spark plugs ($350), but the converters were fully covered. Hope that helps!
