Hey y’all, my sister’s stuck at the mall right now with her Expedition’s alarm blaring like crazy, and she can’t even start the thing. She just got a new key fob battery and tried everything she could think of, but no luck. This also happened a couple of weeks ago, but we don’t have any cash for a locksmith this time. Any ideas on how she can shut it off and drive home without having to get it towed?
She could try unlocking the driver’s side door manually with the key (if she has one), or turning the ignition on and off a couple of times to see if it resets.
Thanks. I’ll tell her to try the manual key trick.
If she can pop the hood, maybe give a quick look at the hood latch sensor. If it’s loose or dirty, the alarm system might think someone’s messing with it.
My bet, it could be a faulty door sensor. If she’s up for it she can try disconnecting the battery for 5-10 minutes, then reconnect it to see if it resets everything.
Try holding down the panic button for a few seconds, then press unlock. If that doesn’t work, maybe she can try opening and closing all the doors to make sure one isn’t slightly ajar.
She actually already tried the panic button thing but didn’t think about the doors being open slightly. I’ll have her double-check.
Has she tried locking and unlocking the car from the passenger door instead of the driver’s side? My dad’s old truck would only shut up if we used the passenger lock.
Sounds a little weird…
