Hi everyone, I’m looking at the 2022-2023 Ford Expedition and wondering about its reliability and durability. How does it compare to Tahoes, Yukons, or even something like the Sequoia?
After a ton of research, I’m leaning toward the Expedition but wanted to hear about any real-world experiences. Appreciate your thoughts!
Big SUVs are where American brands shine. The Expedition, Tahoe, Suburban, and Yukon are all great options. You won’t find anything foreign that matches their size.
If you’re thinking about a Sequoia, it’s likely going to outlast the American ones in the long run. But with the Expedition, you’re getting a truck-based platform, which is solid. There’s the usual tradeoff with American cars: a bit of cheap plastic here and there, a few warranty claims or recalls, but nothing too concerning.
I’d say the Expedition is a solid pick unless you absolutely need max cargo space—then the Suburban wins hands down.

The new Sequoia’s cargo space and third row are a huge letdown. We’ve been Toyota/Lexus fans for years but ended up trading our old Sequoia for a Yukon.
I have a 2018 Expedition Platinum that I bought used in 2020, and I think it’s leagues ahead of the same year Tahoe or Suburban. A friend of mine has a 2022 Tahoe, and the newer generation is definitely more spacious and looks great—Chevy did a fantastic job there.
That said, I still prefer the Expedition for its cabin layout, split trunk design, and the 3.5L EcoBoost engine. I think Ford’s higher trims feel more luxurious than Chevy’s equivalent. Sure, there’s some cheap plastic, but my Platinum trim feels a lot more premium than a mid-level trim Tahoe.
