Any way to clean the evap on a 2014 Expedition without cutting?

Is there a way to clean the evaporator on a 2014 Expedition without cutting into the plastic housing?

Not easily. I drilled a 1/4-inch hole in the upper right corner of the evap box, sprayed a foaming cleaner inside, and let it drain. Then I rinsed it with water using a flexible tube and sealed the hole with HVAC aluminum tape.

Alternatively, you can cut a small square and tape it back up afterward. Just make sure you don’t cut through an AC line and use good-quality tape to seal it.

Yes, but it’s not quick. You’d have to remove a lot of the trim and dash to access it properly. It’s a full-day job, maybe longer.

Alright, let’s cut then!

Do I need a specific type of HVAC aluminum tape, or will any kind work?

Any decent aluminum tape should work fine. Just avoid duct tape (the thick kind with woven mesh and sticky adhesive). It doesn’t seal well and leaves a mess behind.
