2024 Expedition MAX opinions and advice?

We’ve been looking at Sequoias, Suburbans, and Expeditions, and after a lot of test drives, it feels like the Expedition fits our family of six best. Coming from a Chevy family, this was a bit of a shock, but the Expedition seems to have more space inside. The 3rd row was a big deal for us—it’s comfortable, reclines, and sits high enough that your knees aren’t up in your chest.

Now I’m trying to figure out trims and options. I thought I wanted 4x4, but maybe it’s not necessary. Currently working a deal on an XLT Max, but I don’t want to miss anything important.

Would love to hear what others think or if there’s anything I should know before taking the plunge.

I’ve got a 2019 MAX Limited with the tow package for our family of six, and I’d highly recommend it. If I were to get another, I’d do the same build but skip the sunroof—it takes a hit on payload, and I rarely use it. The 360 camera is a must-have for parking.

Glad to hear you’d buy it again! I’m on the fence about the sunroof since my wife really wants it, but I’m worried about leaks down the line.

I’ve got a sunroof on mine, and it’s never leaked—80,000 miles and some heavy storms later, still no issues.

That’s great to hear. I guess it’s a gamble, but maybe it’s not as risky as I’m thinking.

Still rocking an 03 Expedition with a sunroof—200,000 miles, and it’s never leaked. The new ones are different, but I wouldn’t worry too much unless you’re talking about the massive panoramic roofs.

If you’re worried about long-term costs, I’d suggest getting a PremiumCARE extended warranty. You can get it cheaper through third-party dealers like Zeigler or Flood Ford. Definitely worth it for peace of mind.

Totally agree. I got an 8-year/100,000-mile plan from Flood Ford, and it’s been great. Look around for deals—you don’t have to buy the warranty at the time of purchase.

We’re a family of six with a 2021 Max Limited, and it’s been fantastic. We have the captain’s chairs in the second row, which make the 3rd row more accessible. Highly recommend the 360 camera—it made parking a breeze for my wife during the test drive.

Thanks for the tip! The XLT we’re looking at has the 360 camera since it comes with the High Equipment 202A package.

Good call on the 360 camera. It’s a real lifesaver, especially with how big these vehicles are.

I absolutely love my King Ranch Expedition. The big sunroof is my favorite feature!

I’ve got a 2022 Expedition Max Platinum for our family of six plus a big dog. It’s spacious and comfortable, but the SYNC system has been a bit buggy. Also, we’ve had some AC issues that I’m getting checked out soon.

Definitely planning to get an extended warranty, especially with all the tech in these vehicles. We’ve got a big dog too—this seems like the perfect size for family and pets.

Try resetting SYNC by holding the power and fast-forward buttons. That usually helps with glitches.

We’ve had our 2018 Max Limited for five years, and I’d buy it again in a heartbeat. The 3rd row space is unbeatable. We went with benches for the 2nd row for more flexibility when we have extra passengers or gear. If you’re on the fence about a sunroof, I’d say skip it—it’s closed most of the time anyway.

That flexibility is a big deal for us too. We’ve been doing the same with our van, so I might stick with that setup.

We’re also a family of six, and the Expedition Max was a no-brainer for us. The 3rd row is way better than other SUVs we looked at. If you can, go for captain’s chairs in the 2nd row—they make a huge difference in comfort.

Totally agree. We’ve got captain’s chairs in our van now, and we love them.

Check out lower-level Limited trims. You’ll get better materials and more features without a huge jump in price compared to the XLT.
