2022 Expedition Limited - Should I Be Worried?

I’m considering buying a 2022 Expedition Limited this weekend. It was manufactured in April 2022. The reports about transmission issues have me concerned. What are your thoughts?

I love the Expedition for its utility, comfort, and safety. My 2019 saved my entire family in a serious accident. That said, they do have issues. My 2021 just got a new transmission after it went into ‘neutral-out’ mode while towing on the highway.

Doesn’t the 2022 have the updated transmission?

@Cliff
Thanks for replying. From what I’ve read (not an expert), the improved transmission is on models built after August 2022. The one I’m looking at was built in spring 2022.

If that’s the case, I’d highly recommend getting it certified to extend the powertrain warranty, or buying a Ford ESP plan. It’s more of a ‘when’ than an ‘if.’

That said, Ford replaced mine at no charge. It was an inconvenience but manageable. A tip: hand over the TSBs directly to the service advisor to show them you’re informed.

One other thing to consider: these vehicles are depreciating fast.

@Cliff
I definitely plan to buy a Ford ESP through Flood Ford or Ziegler (done it before with other vehicles). Seems like a necessary evil. My buddy bought a brand new GMC Sierra this summer, and his engine locked up after the first oil change.

I’d avoid these trucks. I’ve got a 2021 Expedition Max, and it’s been a disappointment compared to GMC in my opinion. At 79k miles, the transmission is questionable, and everything squeaks. It’s ridiculous.

@Zev
Are GM products really better? Two family members returned their Yukons for electrical issues, one with less than 2,000 miles. Dash turns off randomly.

I’ve owned three Yukon XLs and two Expeditions. This is just my experience—your mileage may vary.

@Zev
That’s my point. Telling someone to avoid a vehicle based on your anecdotal evidence seems a bit extreme.
