2018 Ford Expedition… Thoughts?

The new 2018 Ford Expedition just dropped. What do you all think?

Well, guess this is the Expedition design we’ll be stuck with for the next 20 years.

Edit: Fixed my grammar.

Same with the Lincoln Navigator.

I wish the front looked more like the F-150. That would’ve been way cooler.

Yeah, it would’ve looked better. But I think Ford is trying to market this as a comfy long-haul family SUV instead of making it too aggressive. Maybe they’re aiming at the Range Rover and the upcoming Wagoneer?

@Sal
YOU SAID IT! YOU CALLED IT A ‘PEOPLE CARRIER!’ But yeah, I just prefer the F-150 styling.

Since it’s basically an F-150 underneath, I wonder if you could swap the front end? Honestly, I like this design—it would be a classy F-150 look. They should offer it as an option on the Platinum or Limited trims.

I think it’s a pretty good-looking SUV.

The seats are way too boxy, but I do like the door panels.

Something about the rear looks way too much like a Tahoe/Yukon. The interior is definitely taking inspiration from the Explorer though, which isn’t a bad thing.

Yeah, the C-pillar looks almost identical to GM’s designs. And the rear end feels a little off to me.

I think they did it on purpose. Before Ford made the Explorer unibody, I never really understood the difference between the two. The Expedition always felt like it didn’t have a clear place in the market. Now that it looks more like the Tahoe, maybe they’re trying to steal some of GM’s buyers.

@Jonas
That makes sense. I actually like the redesign, even though people always get mad when something new comes out. I’m considering one mainly for towing, but fuel economy is a concern—gas is almost $5 a gallon up here in Canada.

If it’s anything like past Expeditions, I bet they won’t sell for MSRP for long. It might end up being a bargain compared to GM’s SUVs.

@Wynn
$5 a gallon?! Damn. I’m paying $2.70 for 91 octane in Colorado.

It’s like an Explorer and a Suburban had a baby.

Not feeling the front end. Just looks plain.

Yeah, it kinda reminds me of a Honda Pilot. But I’m really curious about the fuel economy. The 3.5 EcoBoost, aluminum body, 10-speed, and aero design should give it a big edge over GM’s lineup.

@Wynn
The aluminum switch in the F-150 wasn’t actually for fuel economy. It was to meet regulations. By making the truck lighter, they could legally claim a higher payload capacity. Here’s a video explaining it better than I can.

@Nico
You’re right about that. But since the new Expedition is 200-300 pounds lighter, the aluminum still helps a little with gas mileage. Cool video, by the way!

This thing is boring. Easily one of the most uninspired SUV designs out right now.
