2018 Expedition… good deal or not?

The good: Super comfy, lots of room, and surprisingly fun to drive for its size.

The bad: The 10-speed transmission is notorious for issues.

The ugly: Transmission repairs are expensive, and gas mileage will make you cry, especially if you love flooring it.

I didn’t know the 10-speed had issues. Mustang owners seem to love it.

It’s fine now, but early versions had a faulty CDF drum. Newer models (post-2022) have the updated part, so they’re much better.

I absolutely love mine. Perfect for my family—huge interior, comfortable third row, and tons of cargo space. Drives great, but the transmission does shift hard sometimes. Using 93 octane seems to help. The buttons everywhere can be a bit overwhelming though.

@Brooke
One more thing—I have the Max version. If the one you’re looking at isn’t a Max, the price might be too high.

I bought a 2018 last year with slightly higher mileage for less money. So far, no issues, even after a big road trip. I don’t regret it one bit!

Does low mileage make it a good deal? I found a 2020 with a bit more mileage, but it’s more expensive.

If your budget allows, the 2022 interior update is worth considering.

@Sidney
Did the transmission issues get fixed in 2022?

Not until 2023, but most 2022 models come as certified pre-owned, so you can get an extended warranty. We just bought one and extended ours to 180k miles.

I can’t say for your area, but I’m selling my 2021 Limited with 37k miles for $45k. That price for a 2018 feels high.

I’ve got a 2020 with 96k miles. No major issues so far, aside from replacing the valve cover gasket. Took me 2.5 hours.

Those wheels look awful.

I have a 2018, and it’s been a headache. Transmission replaced twice, and cam phaser issues persist. I wouldn’t recommend it unless you have a solid warranty.
