Most of the time, my automatic liftgate won’t latch properly. When I press the button to close it, it lowers, hits the latch mechanism, and then bounces back up like it thinks something is in the way. I can manually pull it down and latch it without a problem, but it won’t work on its own. Is there a way to reset the liftgate sensor, like you can with automatic windows, to stop it from bumping and reopening?
I’ve got a 2017, and my issue is that the button sometimes doesn’t open the tailgate. I have to push against it and then press the button to get it to work. Are you sure nothing is in the way? Like the rubber seal, a sock, or maybe something weird like a dead frog? It’s worth checking all around the area.
Do you notice a big gap between the sides of the hatch? It could be a panel alignment issue.

No, the panel gaps look fine. After troubleshooting, I think the latch mechanism itself is getting sticky. I’ll try adding some grease to see if that helps.
Do you keep your key in your pocket when this happens? Maybe it’s something to do with the fob.

Nope, I don’t have a fob.
